About Students Counselling and Guidance Centre
Jahangirnagar University has its own Students Counselling and Guidance Centre has been playing an important role for the welfare of the students through various activities. It headed by a director was established in the middle of 1982. Now, it is located on the first floor of Teacher-Student Centre (TSC).
It aims at helping and encouraging students who come up with several problems through counselling and psychotherapy. It provides the skilled and principled use of relationship to facilitate self- knowledge, emotional acceptance and growth and the optimal development of personal resources of the students. The centre always emphasizes the students’ problem with developmental issues, addressing and resolving specific problems, making decisions, coping with crisis, developing personal insights and knowledge, working through feelings of inner conflict or improving relationships with others.
Besides the counselling services, it has been playing a vital role in various co-curricular activities such as fresher’s reception, souvenir, debate competition, cultural competition, celebrating national and international days, career festival, and financial assistance for the insolvent meritorious students in every year.
There is a director, an additional director, a deputy-director (cultural) and four assistant directors, two of them are psychologists, one is for career guidance and another is for administration. In addition to them, one counseling officer and two staffs are also available at this centre.
