Plasma Physics Research Group

Department of Physics

The Plasma Physics Research Group led by Professor Dr. A A Mamun is an active as well as very productive research group at the Department of Physics of Jahangirngar University, Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The aim of this research group is to carry out world-class research in a less developed country like Bangladesh. This Plasma Physics Research Group has a direct collaboration with some of the world-leading plasma physicists. Most of the research students/faculties of this group are doing Ph.D. and Postdoc in overseas highly-reputed universities like Washinton University, University of California, Baylor University, University of Alberta, University of St. Andrews, University of Belfast, University of Naples, University of Sydney, Martin Luther University, Griffith University, Universite de Strasbourg, etc.

Current Research:

  • Theoretical and numerical study of linear and nonlinear wave dynamics (both electrostatic and electromagnetic waves) in Plasma Physics and dusty plasma physics
  • Modulational instability/stability of different nonlinear wave modes (electron-acoustic, dust-ion-acoustic, dust-acoustic, self-gravito-acoustic, degenerate-pressure-driven-self-gravito-acoustic modes, etc.)
  • The applications of our research fields are in space, astrophysical, and laboratory plasmas; relativistic/ultra-relativistic plasmas; strongly/weakly coupled dusty plasmas, laser-produced laboratory plasmas, and rotational compact astrophysical objects
  • Extreme waves: Rogue waves in plasmas
