The University administration is an autonomous body managed by and executive council known as the University Syndicate. It is empowered by and Act of the Parliament to perform both executive and legislative functions. While it is the supreme body for all executive functions. Its statutes need ratification by the University Senate, a body which meets at least once a year to pass the annual budget, review academic matters and elect, once every four years, a panel of three candidates for the appointment of Vice-Chancellor. The Vice-Chancellor is the executive head of the University and is appointed by the Chancellor of the University who is also the President of the Country, from a panel nominated by the Senate, for a period of four years. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor and the Treasurer are also appointed by the Chancellor of the University. The university has various official departments for smooth running of overall university affairs, Some of these are: Registrar's Office, Comptroller's Office, Office for Planning & Development, Engineering & Works Department, Public Relations Office. At present there are a total of 160 officers and 1200 employees in the university.
