Abdullah Faruque, currently a professor at the Department of Pharmacy, Jahangirnagar University, where he has been since 1992. He was born on the 5th of October, 1962 in the district of Dhaka, Bangladesh. His father was A.Z.M.S. Faruque and mother is Jahanara Begum. He started schooling at Adamjee Cantonment School in Dhaka and did his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination in 1977 from Dhaka Board and securing 72.2%. After that he got admitted to the Notre Dame College, Dhaka and passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination in 1979 from Dhaka board and securing 75% marks. After passing the HSC examination he went to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) to fulfill the expectation of his parents to become a doctor. But, unfortunately, he could not continue the course because of personal reasons. Then he got admitted at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Dhaka in the next academic session (1980-81) and got his B. Pharm (Honors) and M. Pharm degrees in 1983 (exam. held in 1986) and 1984 (exam. held in 1988) respectively and securing 4th positions in both examinations. After completion of the B. Pharm and M. Pharm degrees, he joined the then Rhone Poulenc Bangladesh Ltd. as a Production Pharmacist in the Sterile Products Section in December 1989. He later joined the Department of Pharmacy, Jahangirnagar University as Lecturer in April 1992 and was promoted to Professor in June 2010. Meanwhile, he participated in a research project at the Institute for Chemistry in Industry, The University of Hull, Hull, England from February 1995 to September 1995. He also participated in a training program on the Use and Maintenance of High Performance Liquid Chromatographs, organized jointly by BCSIR and BIRDEM, Dhaka from 28 November to 3December, 1998. He was Chairman at the Department of Pharmacy, JU from June 2006 to June 2009. He worked as a professor at the Department of Pharmacy, Daffodil International University from June 2014 to March 2016. He engaged in teaching and research in Medicinal Chemistry and Biotechnology. He is supervising one PhD, one M. Phil and more than one hundred M. Pharm research students.
