PROFILE

SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Md. Maniruzzaman Sikder was born in the district of Tangail, Bangladesh. He graduated from the Department of Botany, Jahangirnagar University, with a First-class First position and an MSc in Plant Science (Thesis Group-Plant Pathology) with a First-class Second position. He also obtained another MSc degree in Nematology with Great Distinction (Magna Cum Laude) under the VLIR-UOS scholarship. He received the Best Student Award in 2015 from Ghent University, Belgium. Sikder joined as a Lecturer in the Department of Botany in 2010, was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2013, Associate Professor (permanent position) in 2018. He worked on the effect of spent mushroom compost and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on onion and maize during his Masters; later on,  he focused his research on the interaction of Root-knot nematode-Meloidogyne graminicola and Oomycete-Pythium arrhenomanes on rice with emphasis on defence hormonal (Jasmonic acid, Salicylic acid, Ethylene, and Auxin) signalling pathway in rice. He received a Danish Government Fellowship to pursue PhD degree at Aarhus University. He was awarded a Ph.D. degree from Denmark in 2021. His PhD research topic was the impact of plant secondary metabolites on root-associated soil nematode communities. His research interest is in morphological, morphometric, and molecular characterization of plant-parasitic nematodes, fungi, and bacteria. He is also interested in studying soil and plant microbiomes using the metabarcoding approach. He has been awarded a McCain postdoctoral fellowship in Canada. Dr. Sikder has been working on the "Assessment and mitigation of potato slug disease incidence through cover cropping practices with an emphasis on restoring soil health and diversity" in the Department of Plant, Food and Environmental Science, Dalhousie University, Canada.

He has published several ground-breaking research findings in world-renowned journals, such as Nature Portfolio, Germany; Elsevier, Netherlands; Wiley Blackwell, US; Oxford Academic, US; Frontiers, UK; Springer Nature, Germany; MDPI, Switzerland; Oxford University Press, US, and so on. So far, his H-index is 12, and his i10 index is 18. Additionally, he has published more than 44 research articles in different peer-reviewed international journals, which have been cited more than 599 times by international scientists and researchers across the world (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=eYmrt8wAAAAJ&hl=en). Moreover, several significant research findings were presented at international conferences in the US, Belgium, Portugal, France, Norway, Switzerland, and Denmark. Now, he is involved in cutting-edge scientific research with global partners and scientists from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Ghana, Slovenia, Serbia, China, and other countries.
